I came to EPRI in 1992, and first met Chauncey in 1996 when I took over responsibility for what was then called the Strategic Science & Technology program (now the Technology Innovation program).  I sat right across the hall from Chauncey for 6 years and was fortunate enough discuss and learn from him on many technical topics relevant to EPRI's longer range research goals.  Beyond a tremendously active intelligence, what I remember most fondly and with awe is that he was that very rare combination of brilliant scientist and pragmatic engineer.  I was inspired by his drive not only to develop new science to but to apply it.  On top of all of that, he was committed to teaching and sharing his experience and ideas as broadly as possible.  I think of Chauncey often when I think about my own aspirations.
