James Birk Member, Chauncey's Fan Club April 26, 2007
EPRI's reputation allowed us to draw the world's experts into our strategy sessions. Such a session was held on Renewables and Storage as we were developing the Institute's R&D Rodmap for these technologies. I extended an invitation to Chauncey to attend. I mentioned to him the names of those who had accepted our invitation. Truly an unbelievably talented group. He said his background was limited and that he probably couldn't contribute very much. I pleaded. He came. After the session I asked the EPRI staff who provided the greatest insight to our mission. We unanamously selected Chauncey. Along with his strategic insight we were blessed with his spirit, warmth, humor and brilliance.

It was a privilege for the Knoxville Finance team to be in Palo Alto and meet Chauncy at his birthday party.  I could have sat at his feet and listened to his wisdom for hours.  I am sorry for your loss and sad that we could not have access to his
astuteness and wonderful wit for many years to come.  You are in our prayers.
Catherine Knipe Inspirational Leader April 22, 2007

Our planet has lost one of its true inspirational leaders and role models.  I pray for his family and friends' loss and all his colleagues at EPRI that will not have his so familiar presence readily available to them for consultation and inspiration.  Let us remember his legacy and may it continue to better our world.

We have all lost a person with awesome vision, scientific talent, and an ability to communicate complicated ideas with clarity. Our challenge is to remember his insights and scientific accomplishments, and apply them to solve future problems with his grace and humility.

To Chauncey's family, friends and other loved ones:  I share your loss, though I am humbled by the knowledge that yours is so much greater.  Knowing him, even a little, means that this is the closest I've been to greatness, to such intellectual breadth and strength.  My interactions were few, usually casual and always priceless.  His answer to my question at the end of a presentation about climate change awed me! He educated me, inspired me and encouraged me in the most insightful and concise manner! I was truly euphoric at his answer and walked on air for weeks afterward.  Quite the opposite now.  I mourn his passing, pray for all of those who love him and will miss him.  I am inspired by his legacy and hope that the knowlege of his gigantic contributions to the world and your memories will provide solace now.  Aloha nui loa, Mali Dahl
